Challenges and Solutions in Handling Bulk Materials and Powders
Challenge ➢ Bulk Density
The bulk density of raw materials often varies and can change constantly due to fluctuations in temperature and pressure or other factors. Dosing, for example, 1 kg of Aerosil and 1 kg of granules using the same dosing equipment proves to be extremely difficult.
The DEMIC Solution:
While you may need to switch out the dosing element for different raw materials, the control algorithm in DEMIC’s controllers automatically adapts to this, enabling the dosing of all materials using the same controller.
Challenge ➢ Dust Generation
The transport of bulk materials, especially powders, generates large amounts of dust that pose a risk to employees’ health and safety.
The DEMIC Solution:
Using specialized filter cleaning systems, extraction systems, and docking systems, we solve the problem by removing the dust from the system.
Challenge ➢ Product Pillars
When dosing bulk materials—and powders in particular—product columns form inside the dosing device. This creates a hole above the screw feeder, while material remains at the edges of the hopper, which becomes further compacted over time.
The DEMIC Solution:
Through precisely coordinated control of product activation using knockers and vibrators, the accumulation of bulk materials and powders at the edges is prevented, thereby contributing to a continuous product flow.
We’ll soon be introducing an innovative method for product activation that has minimal impact on the weighing signal!
Challenge ➢ Risk of Explosion
When the process requires it, bulk materials and powders must be safely metered, conveyed, and stored even in highly explosive environments.
The DEMIC Solution:
All DEMIC devices and control systems can be designed to be ATEX-compliant and are therefore also suitable for decentralized use at the dosing/conveying unit.
